STEM Toys Giveaway Program
Oct 2024 - Aug 2025
Introduction
The Robotics Club of St Joseph’s College, which I founded, offers a community service initiative to improve STEM education access for underprivileged children. Using engaging LEGO toys, the program promotes creativity, critical thinking, and essential STEM skills through fun learning.
Goal:
To cultivate a passion for STEM in children and offer educational opportunities empowering them with skills and creativity to succeed in a technology-driven world.
Underprvileged Children in Hong Kong

Statistics from the Census Department (2023)
-
222,600 children (below the age of 18) living in poverty
-
accounting for 23.8 % of the total age group population – about 1 in every 4 kids
Our LEGO STEM Toys
In 2024/2025, we gifted around 150 LEGO kits to children in under-resourced communities. Designed by Club members, kits included key STEM concepts using simple machines like linkages, cams, and pulleys. The unassembled kits encouraged hands-on learning and creativity, with each toy containing fewer than 70 pieces for accessibility.

About BrickLink Studio
Studio is a desktop application that allows users to build LEGO models using virtual parts. Users can source parts, create user manuals (by Instruction Maker), and render photorealistic images.

Benefits of Giveaway Program
Foster STEM learning among underprivileged children through high-quality, kid-friendly LEGO parts that make learning playful and accessible.
Encourage community service and empathy by promoting awareness and support for those with fewer resources.
Inspire members’ creativity and mechanical design skills through hands-on work with CAD tools and LEGO systems.
Strengthen teamwork and a sense of unity within the Robotics Club, enhancing collaboration skills and club spirit.

Promoting CAD for design
The Robotics Club organized a workshop to teach how to use BrickLink Studio for CAD. Members learned to create detailed LEGO designs and utilize features like photorealistic rendering. This training aims to equip members with digital design skills that combine creativity and engineering, enhancing their mechanical design for future STEM innovation.
